 Campus Life

  Located above the eastern side of Guanyin Mountain in Kaohsiung City, I-Shou University (ISU), formerly Kaohsiung Polytechnic Institute (KPI), started construction in 1986 and began operation in the autumn of 1990. The university motto has been ‘pragmatism, innovation, excellence and sustainable development.’ Thus far, the university has had successful performances in academic research, industry-university cooperation and international cooperation.

  About a 10-minute driving-distance away, Dashe District and Nanzih District are the two major nearby areas for students to spend their leisure time for entertainment and shopping. Many stores give discounts to ISU students. Two kilometers away in the opposite direction is a provincial highway passing through Dashu District, along which several tourist attractions are located: Old-Railway-Bridge wetland park, Fo Guang Shan Monastery, cable-stayed bridge.

  Besides the natural scenery, E United Group has built up the E-DA World near the ISU campus in recent years, which combines five-star hotels, a shopping mall and a theme park to provide more choices of food, leisure and entertainment for the faculty and students of ISU.

  The campus has all the modern facilities expected from today’s universities. The fully automated library has completed collections in all related fields. All major journals and trade publications for the faculties and departments of ISU are subscribed in electronic and print form. Computer labs with more than 100 multimedia personal computers are available for self-directed learning and training sessions.

  In terms of leisure facilities, a domed basketball court, an Olympic-size swimming pool designed for competitions and available for everyday use, a roller-skating ring, running track, a soccer field, tennis courts and auditoriums are available for personal use of faculty and students as well as indoor and outdoor public performances and concerts.

  ISU provides an environment ideal for study, and it is a safe and comfortable place for students to stay. There are five dormitories accommodating nearly 7,000 students. There are cafes and restaurants, bookstore, post office and general stores on campus for the convenience of faculty and students.
