Laboratory of Food Chemistry
The laboratory is located on the 9th floor of Teaching Building B at the Medical Campus, I-Shou University. It provides spaces for professional experiments in food chemistry, food safety, food analysis and, food processing courses for all students. There are 20 benches in the lab and a bench can be arranged for 2 or 3 students; therefore, all students can do the experiments by themselves.
A metal scaffold is made on each bench, so it is convenient to fix a typical buret and distiller. Apparatus includes Kjeldahl distillation system, Rotary evaporator, Centrifuge, Soxhlet extractor, Electric analytical balances, Drying ovens, Water bath, Sonicator, Hot-plate stirrers, Microwave machine, Desiccator, Conway’s dish, etc. Students will be taught to use all the apparatus.
Safety is the most important thing when experiments are ongoing. Safety showers and eye washes are available in the lab for washing off accidental contamination of the eyes or body. Fire blankets, fire extinguishers, fire gas masks and first-aid kits are also located at prominent places in the lab. Every student must wear aprons and goggles for their safety. Each bench is designed under a fume hood from being exposed to evaporated chemicals.
