Introduction

[History and Objectives]

Since the establishment of I-Shou University in 1990, affairs related to labor safety and hygiene have been in the charge of the Office of General Affairs, and one occupational safety and hygiene officer was recruited in 1996. To respond to government strategies and to better manage safety and hygiene on campus, the Labor Safety and Hygiene Office, one of the first-level administrative units, was established on October 26, 1998, to take charge of all affairs related to safety and hygiene at the University.

The Office received the approval document from the Southern Region Inspection Office, Council of Labor Affairs, Executive Yuan, on January 12, 2000, to establish units and recruit personnel in charge of safety and hygiene-related affairs. Moreover, the Labor Safety & Hygiene Committee and the Toxic Chemical Management Committee were established in the same year to serve as the highest administrative organ in terms of counseling, deliberation, coordination, and suggestions about labor safety and hygiene of the University.

The Office stipulates management rules, regulations and projects pursuant to laws and decrees, including the Regulations for Management of Labor Safety and Hygiene, the Code of Practice for Labor Safety and Hygiene, the Proposal for Occupational Accident Prevention, the Proposal for Hazard Communication, the Code of Practice for Contractor Safety and Hygiene, the Emergency Response Plan for Laboratory Chemical Hazards, and the Industrial Waste Clearance Plan of I-Shou University. With a spirit of autonomous management as well as continuous safety and hygiene management, we will do our utmost to prevent occupational accidents and hazards.

With the continuous expansion and development of the University, the number of faculty members and students has increased from hundreds to over 16,000. Campus safety requires more attention than ever before. In response to the need for better management of campus safety, the Safety Section of the Labor Safety and Hygiene Office was established in 2005 in accordance with the Charter of I-Shou University. This section is responsible for overseeing safety-related matters to enhance the safety of faculty, staff, and students.
